I actually rarely deal with 'psychos', considering that refers to a very specific mental disorder.

But the answer is carefully. A suspect lectured me once for being too distrusting, actually.

'Psycho' refers to 'psychopathic' which is a somewhat pejorative term for someone with the condition of psychopathy. Psychopathy itself is a broad disorder that is not given as an actual diagnosis, for various reasons, but is characterized by a set of particular symptoms including a difficulty or even complete inability to form emotional attachments.

Although a convenient label to assign to serial killers, or criminals in general, that's because it provides an easy way to distance oneself from them rather than recognize that many are essentially very normal people. It's a lot simpler to believe that murderers completely lack empathy and compassion, rather than that they just decide their own needs and wants are more important than another person's life, which is something anyone could do.
