[Kyna has noticed that Wash doesn't seem able to just hang out with her anymore—everything is calculated now, like he's constantly trying to make up for what he did. She's not entirely sure how she feels about that. It seems unfair, somehow, but telling him to stop could make him feel worse, and she doesn't know how to explain what she means, anyway.
So, when Wash shows up with a bottle of wine and a blanket, Kyna isn't entirely shocked. She smiles a little, tilting her head.]
[ Honestly, he'd welcome being told he can chill a little at this point, because there are only so many things they can do with the resources in Hadriel and he doesn't have any normal dating experience to draw from. But right now he thinks she's appreciating the effort so he's still trying, perhaps a little too hard. ]
Stargazing. I thought we could go up to the roof and make up some constellations for this planet... we've never really had stars before, you said you used to love them.
[ First was the cave, then the double suns that all but completely eliminated true nighttime. Now, though, they had a view. ]
Grab some glasses and a maybe pillow, if you want one?
[ They'll make it work. She can lean back against him or something, drink and look up at the stars. Kyna comes back with glasses and he leans down to kiss her forehead before heading for the stairs to the roof.
It's a cool night, but not too windy even up here, so Wash spreads out the blanket easily enough. He pulls some markers out of his pocket before sitting and unrolling the paper too, then reaching up for Kyna to come sit against his chest. ]
[ But fine, if she wants him to go first... Wash tilts his head back, looking up at the dots in the sky to see which ones are brightest, and how he could maybe connect them. ]
Okay, those three bright ones, right here? That's the head of a bird. [ He lifts his hand from her waist, tracing down the neck and body of it, then dotting a spray of stars to its right that could be tailfeathers. ] See him?

[As a pillow, she means. She ducks inside, returning a few seconds later with a pair of wine glasses.]
Lead the way.

This isn't too cheesy, is it?

No, it's not too cheesy, but all of our stories are going to be totally stupid.
[Because... Well, Wash, do you know who your girlfriend is?]
no subject
It's just for fun. Hold up your glass.
[ When she does he'll pour her some wine, then lean back so she can recline a little and look up at the stars. ]
What do you see?

What? Why am I starting?

It looks like a crooked chicken.

[She tries to look up at him, but the attempt is awkward because of her angle.]
Are there seriously alien chickens?
