[ Wash is having a lazy morning for once. He's exhausted from the shitty vision-full sleep, and from everyone trying to comfort him. He's been hiding out with Maine during the day but right now is still curled up with Kyna -- until his phone chimes. He rolls over to see who wants what, and... ]

...Kyna? Kyna, look at this.

I have to tell Harlan.

[evocation]

[Kyna is sleeping, or trying to. Really, she's just snuggled up to Wash in a light doze, and she lets out a quiet noise of complaint when he moves to grab his phone. When he say her name, though, she forces herself awake, propping herself up on an elbow and peering down at the screen.]

Holy shit. What do you think that means?

[hardwearing]

[ The gears are clearly turning in Wash's head. He stares at his phone as he thinks. ]

Either some got away or.... Name told me that the Null used to inhabit this planet. Maybe the Null are a host species that defected. I don't know. But we'll need to be ready, and I think if they come back we should be thinking about taking one alive.

[evocation]

[Kyna bites her lip at that, considering it.]

How? Those things were strong enough to kill Harlan.

[hardwearing]

I don't know. I'm going to have to ask for help with this one. But Harlan wasn't trying those kinds of spells, it didn't sound like.

[evocation]

Yeah. I guess we can try to figure something out. Who are you going to ask?

[hardwearing]

Probably everyone, honestly. I only know a fraction of the people here. I'll talk to Nick first, make sure I'm not stepping on any toes.

[evocation]

Okay. Leader time again?

[hardwearing]

...me? Here? I don't know.

[evocation]

What? Why not? You're good at it.

[hardwearing]

Because I've got absolutely no authority. No one knows who the hell I am, why should they listen?

[evocation]

Because you're the one organizing the whole thing. Besides, I trust you to lead this more than anyone else.

[hardwearing]

You know me, Kyna, that's sort of my point... I guess if I can show I have a few people behind me that'd help. You think anyone will listen?

[evocation]

They'd better. You just... You know, Have to be kind of bossy.

[That's not the right word.]

Uh... Authoritative.

[hardwearing]

Authoritative hasn't really worked for me before, they just got angry at being told what to do. But the Reds and Blues might be a special case.

[evocation]

Probably. People like when someone has a plan and is all ready to do it, right? I mean, as long as the plan doesn't suck.

[hardwearing]

First lesson in leadership: there are always people who are going to think the plan sucks, no matter how logical it is. Without authority you'd better be charismatic -- I'm not.

[evocation]

What? You're totally charismatic.

[Guess who's biased?]

Do you want me to help?

[hardwearing]

You are extremely biased. But maybe read what I want to say for me? Critically.

[evocation]

I'm not biased. I'm right.

[She finally sits up, leaning over to kiss him on the cheek.]

Let me see.

[hardwearing]

[ Patience!! Wash grins and starts typing in earnest. ]

Let me write it first, Kyna.

[evocation]

[Kyna blows a raspberry at him in response.]

Chop chop. I'm a very busy person, David.

[hardwearing]

[ Wash blinks when she uses his real name, then smiles slightly. It's less weird when she just slips it in like that, feels like something private between them. It's okay. He just sasses back, doesn't comment on it. ]

Busy napping. Don't let me keep you up, this might take a minute.

[evocation]

[Kyna grins at that, pleased by his little smile.]

It's called beauty rest. You should be thanking me.

[hardwearing]

[ This is distracting!! But he's not letting that one go. ]

Kyna please, people are gonna wonder why the hell you're with me if you get any more beautiful.
