[ didn't feel like this. A little blip of something he wouldn't want to call anxiety (but which maybe is), and he shrugs like nothing's ever been wrong in his life. ]

I wanna keep getting discounts at the bar here, right?

[She scoffs.]

I dunno - what d'you think?

[She grins, giving his hand a little tug.]

I dunno. Are you saying I'm not?

Maybe. [ He lets his hand be tugged. There's amusement coming through it, a warmth that doesn't really balance out everything else--but it's there, at least. ] Sometime I get whiskey outta the deal.

Ooh, whiskey. That's the nicest thing you can say?

[She beams at him.]

[Kyna laughs, affection surging through the bond.]

[ Does he tug lightly on a lock of her hair? Maybe. ]

[ He huffs a little, like it isn't good enough, but also he's grinning, so. You know. Whatever. ]

You feel a little better? Or you need your ego stroked a little more?

You can always stroke my ego. But you're making me feel a lot better, yeah.

That's something, right?

[ A lot better's definitely something. And just having someone to hold onto is...well, that's something, too. He's not trying to think too hard about it, how it smooths things out a little. Besides the danger of transmitting every feeling he might have about being close to Kyna, it doesn't really pay to analyze something like this. Just enjoy it while it's there. ]

[ He says it about as seriously as he did You're funny, which is to say, with all the attitude of all right, here's a compliment on demand. So it's fine. Not serious. Normal. Friend behavior. ]
