Um... It depends. Most mages are only really powerful if they can sit back and blast you. It's not like we've got crazy sci-fi armor.

[She shrugs a little.]

If you know what someone's using as a focus, you can just grab it and that screws them over pretty hard. Not everyone here needs a focus, though.

Getting in close enough to fight is the problem, though. And Lup doesn't even have a body for me to hit.

[ Not that he's planning on attacking her, he's just concerned with defending himself. ]

Uh... I've got weak, long range spells. They might hurt a little, but if you're in your armor, they probably won't do much. You just have to try to get close to me, I guess.

[She shoots him a look.]

I mean those spells are weak enough that you can practice dodging without getting fucked up.

How do you dodge magic? Lup's fire spell wasn't like a blast coming at me, I was just... on fire.

[She tilts her head, considering.]

I don't know what spell she used, or I'd tell you. Tucker can help, too. His entire life is dodging shit.

Tucker's not my biggest fan right now, either.

[Kyna stops, looking up at him. His visor doesn't let her read his expression, as usual.]

No, I mean... I don't know. I'm just wondering. It's not like Tucker doesn't like you or something.

[ Wash shrugs a little. ]

[So what does that mean? That seems... significant. Maybe. Maybe she's overthinking it. She looks down, tracing one of the plates of his gauntlet.]

[She could leave it there, and she almost does, eyes still locked on his arm.]

[ They walk along quietly for a moment, before Wash speaks again. ]

I've been working on it, the past few years. Trying to be there for people beyond just having their back in a fight. It's not easy, and I've screwed up a lot, but... it's worth it.

How do you deal with it when you screw up? I feel like I do that all the time.
